      Genuine Graph Tech Tusq XL PQL-5000-00 - 2015 Mexican Standard Telecaster

      For the most part the Graph Tech Tusq XL PQL-5000-00 was a good fit out of the box for my 2015 Mexican Standard Telecaster. I had to sand a bit length wise, so it would fit in the nut slot, but not much. The ends needed a bit of sanding to make the nut flush with the neck. I also rounded the end corners some for comfort. The string slot depth on mine seemed to be just about right out of the box. I'll probably cut the slots a hair deeper, but they're pretty close out of the box. Sound wise - well, it seems to be sounding just fine. I also got the Tusq string tree - a nice touch...

      A great switch from your usual plastic or bone nut.

      As the nut is made from a Teflon derivative, it has a very low friction quotient, therefore less drag on your strings. This helps them ring out a bit more. It's not an extreme difference, but you might notice a bit more overtones, especially when playing clean. It's also nice when tuning, as you won't hear any clicks from the friction, which also means the nut will almost never wear out. It's a bit harder than plastic, so it's much easier to file down to the desired shape without breakage. This is my first time trying a tusq nut and I'm liking it a lot.
