The Prom Night series perfectly represents the typical 80's horror flick- naive teen characters, cheesy plotlines/jokes and a plot that is anything but scary. That said, I simply love Prom Night 3, Prom Night 4 is a different story... PROM NIGHT 3- Alex Monroe is sick of being an average high school student- he has an average shoe size, average grades, lives on a street named after a tree, is destined to have 1.5 kids... But all that changes after a romantic encounter with Mary Lou Maloney- the infamous prom queen and now ghost of Hamilton High who died 30 years prior in a "mysterious" gym fire. Suddenly, he is a star football player and straight A student- his parents even buy him a motorcycle (because they are so proud of him). BUT there is a price to pay- all he has to do is "bop a ghost," dodge questions from his girlfriend, Sara and clean up a few dead bodies (as Mary Lou keeps offing everyone who challenges his success)... This movie is definitely more of a comedy than a horror flick. Alex's girlfriend, Sara, doesn't get mad, she bakes, the school principle says he "won't let the actions of 1 homicidal student ruin the fun of others" and don't forget to listen to the announcements that come over the high school speaker system- they are just hilarious. Prom Night 4 is a different story- It has nothing to do with Mary Lou or the continuation of the storyline in Prom Night 3. In fact, the main focus of the movie doesn't even have to do with the Prom. Instead, it features a bunch of high school students who want to spend the summer in a house that is plagued with a maniac killer, who is also a priest. I didn't enjoy this one at all. BUT in my opinion the DVD is still worth the purchase for Prom Night 3, which I don't think is available on it's own. [*On a side note- if you're a fan of the Mary Lou character- Prom Night 2 and 3 both contain stories about her. The original Prom Night and Prom Night 4 don't mention her at all. Although 2 & 3 both take place at a Hamilton High School and share the same basic story about a prom queen/ ghost killed in a fire, the high school sets and actress that plays Mary Lou are totally different. Also #2 actually tries to be a horror flick, while #3 is just funny.*]Read full review
Well, I originally bought this anticipating Prom Night 4 because it was a return to the slasher genre like the first one was. As one may or may not know Prom Night 2 and 3 explored the realm of supernatural rather than slasher. I went into this double feature not seeing either film and I must say I enjoyed Prom Night 3 more than the fourth. Although 4 is a slasher it can be very boring at times and there isn't that much gore. The third one returns where Prom Night 2 left off with Mary Lou and all the great cheesy eighties humor and atmosphere. So this dvd has something for sraight up slasher fans or fans great cheesy fun.
OK Prom Night 3 the original cut is a hilarious bloody movie with an ending that would make Freddy Krueger proud. HOWEVER this version is the atrocious edited for tv cut. All nudity expletives gore have been cut out and sadly the only way to see the original is to buy an older German dvd copy or watch it on youtube for free (sadly it is vhs quality at best on youtube but worth it). This version of the movie is not worth buying. Prom Night 4 is an alright movie and imho worth watching. It is not as bad as most people make it out to be however it is sadly not worth buying in this collection. There is a 3 pack I would recommend buying either from here or from Walmart (mine was 3.74 at Walmart) and it includes Prom Night 1, 2 (the first movie in the Mary Lou Duology which is concluded in 3) and 4. I included the cover art for the triple movie pack.Read full review

Prom Night III: The Last Kiss (1990).....Mary Lou, the prom queen burned to death by her boyfriend back in the fifties, has escaped from hell and is once again walking the hallways of Hamilton High School, looking for blood. She chooses as her escort in world of the living Alex, an average depressed student with dreams of one day becoming a doctor. As Mary Lou begins to get back into form, the body count starts climbing and the graduating class of Hamilton High is once again smaller than expected. Prom Night IV: Deliver Us from Evil (1992).....Carrying on the Prom Night tradition, this film begins back at Hamilton High School on Prom Night in 1957. As a young couple are enjoying a romantic moment together in the back seat of a car, they are interrupted by Father Jonas, a priest who slashes and immolates the lovers. Thirty years later, Jonas gets loose from the chapel basement where the church fathers had been secretly keeping him locked up and drugged. As luck would have it, it's prom night again, and group of four students have unfortunately chosen Jonas's hideout as their secluded getaway spot. These are realy good movies. for rainny days and nothing on tv to watch. Ilke today..
