About this product

Product Information

If Michael Crichton and Clive Cussler were to combine their talents to create the ultimate summer read, MEG would be the result--a jaw-dropping and terrifying page-turner of the deep. On a top-secret dive into the Pacific Ocean's deepest canyon, Jonas Taylor found himself face-to-face with the largest and most ferocious predator in the history of the animal kingdom.  The sole survivor of the mission, Taylor is haunted by what he's sure he saw but still can't prove exists--Carcharodon megalodon, the massive mother of the great white shark.  The average prehistoric Meg weighs in at twenty tons and could tear apart a Tyrannosaurus rex in seconds. Written off as a crackpot suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, Taylor refuses to forget the depths that nearly cost him his life.  With a Ph.D. in paleontology under his belt, Taylor spends years theorizing, lecturing, and writing about the possibility that Meg still feeds at the deepest levels of the sea.  But it takes an old friend in need to get him to return to the water, and a hotshot female submarine pilot to dare him back into a high-tech miniature sub. Diving deeper than he ever has before, Taylor will face terror like he's never imagined, and what he finds could turn the tides bloody red until the end of time. Steve Alten holds a master's degree in sports medicine and has a Ph.D.  from Temple University.  An avid amateur oceanographer, Alten has been studying Megalodons for over ten years.  He lives with his wife and three children in South Florida.  MEGis his first novel.

    Classic

Phenomenal story, a plethora of fun, intense thrills, action, and everything it sounds like. Words can't do it justice, you have to experience Steve Alten's original novel to understand just how great a book it is, and why it spawned 7 sequels and 3 spinoff stories set in the same universe. The Meg Series is amazing, and this one book is the one that started it all!

  • A great read.

I've been a big fan of Steve Altens books since I stumbled upon Meg around 10 years ago. I have always been interested in sharks and I'm a huge fan of Jaws so the thought of 70ft shark was simply fascinating to me. Alten merges the facts and the fiction well in the book although some parts are pretty far fetched. Whilst reading the book you fairly get the feel this is a first novel, the narrative is quite amateurish in places and can be disjointed. Many of the characters are dislikeable, two dimensional and are easily identifiable as shark bait. Having said that, the story moves at a good pace and there are few, if any, boring parts. Alten certainly knows his aquatic facts which adds to the feeling that this could be possible. The key scenes in the book grab the readers attention as do ...

  • A Total Nail-Biter of a book that's also an easy read!

MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror, is the first novel written by Steve Alten. I had heard of this book for a few years before I decided to purchase and read it, but I'm glad I did. It's quite an easy read, but it's also a good one. I liked how Alten depicts the Meg, and also how the characters are very human. It's written much like a movie, which is fine because they're trying to make it into one! There's little negative that I can actually say, as I enjoyed the book thoroughly. If you want a thriller that's a relative quick easy read - give this a shot!

  • Awsome Book!! Do Not Pass This One Up!!!!!

This book will capture you from the very first page and hold you all the way through to the end and make you want more. Which there is more in sequels. Which will hold you just as much! There is nothing I can say bad about this book. If you love a excellent book you have to read this one!! It will make you feel like you are there and part of the book. Do not pass this one up!! Happy reading!!

  • Meg by Steve Alten

Thrilling! For anyone who still goes into the ocean after the Jaws movies, this will pretty much keep you from ever going in again! A trench underneath the ocean conceals the prehistoric Megaladon shark, the size of a city bus. Along with all of the terrifying attack scenes, there is an actual storyline with characters you root for and history of the Megaladon that makes this book more believable and consequently, scary as hell! A must read for anyone who wants a can't-put-down thriller.
