Drummin' Men is essential reading for drummers, scholars, jazz lovers
The best (if not the only?) written volume dedicated to the greatest drummers of the Swing Era in the great jazz centers of the USA (New York, Chicago, New Orleans, W.Coast etc), primarily in the 1930s and '40s. This medium-sized volume contains intimate reflections on the most innovative master drummers of that time with quotes from specific drummers talking about their peers--their lives, artistic greatness, and minute details that really bring those brilliant musicians to life. Its value is beyond measure, if you are a drummer yourself, a jazz lover, serious fan, or just looking to enrich your knowledge of the performing arts in America.
