Problem was Ricoh (and reviewers, et al) do not mention that in order to scan high contrast items, you'll have to pay an additional $400+ for a software "upgrade." Also, this scanner tore the hell out of the first sports cards' sleeves and scuffed up harder protectors, even after the "remove the wheel fix." Not sure if this is with all 8170s, but it doesn't appear so. All the same, seller accepted the return and refunded with no issues.
