This is a new release of an Athearn classic. It has McHenry knuckle couplers that are compatible with other types. It would benefit from some painting of the black plastic floor and painting the wire hand rails and roof ladders. This one is a bit more fiddly than most Athearn kits and may not be suitable for beginners. If you have a little experience this is a good step up from Athearn's basic boxcars.

I would love to see prototype NYC cabooses at reasonable prices besides the craftsman type kits. This Athearn has been around for too many years. The weights provided are not up to NMRA standards for this size of car. The truck mountings have to be modified so the car does not rock while going down the track. (this would make the crew seasick !). Are the proper knuckle couplers included in the kit. This would be a plus along with window glass and up to date instructions on making the car operate better. addition decals so the numbers can be changed would justify the higher price of this kit.

The caboose I ordered was not an Athearn kit model, looks to me as one built by Accurail. It is still a good model of the NYC cabooses of the time period. It fits well into the era I am modeling, so it was a good buy!
