Percy Jackson and The Lightning Theif is a three quarters adventure and one quarter mystery. When Percy finds out that his a half-blood (part god), his best friend is a stayr and his Latin Teacher is a centaur. He makes his way to Camp Half-Blood where he finds its hard fitting in and gets stuck in the Hermes cabin which is very cramped. He makes friends with the cabin cousler, Luke, who isn't like what he first seems. After that he gets 'claimed' by his dad, Poseidon, then his life is nothing but a mess when he makes an enemy of Zeus because someone stoled his lighthning bolt and he is blamed. Now, its a race against time to find the master bolt and get it to Zeus without dying along the way. He meets many different Gods and monster along the way. The mystery part of it is who stoled the master bolt and what the Oralce meant by her strange rythrms. I love this book because its meeting a whole new world. I seen the preveiws to the movie and decided to read the book, and now I'm hooked. The book is a great read for any age. You want friendship, adventure, mystery, thrill, comedy, and betrails, this book is for youRead full review
The Lightning Thief is a great book that not only gives students a great introduction to Greek Mythology, but also uses easy word choice and an interesting plotline that appeals to students who don't normally read. I especially like that it appeals to kids who struggle with reading (Dyslexics, etc.) by saying that if you have trouble reading it may be that you (Like Percy) are a demi-god. Additionally, it's the start to a series, so kids who get hooked, keep going!
It is a gift for my grandson's birthday coming soon. He enjoys these books. It keeps his interest.

I suspect Rick Riordian hired a ghost writer or two for this series. Granted these are stories for children but they are so poorly conceived and completely unbelievable that I could not finish the series and gave up halfway through the second novel. As a fan of Riordian's detective novels, I was sorely disappointed with his Olympian's series. Not recommended.

5 out of 5 for the actual book. Practically new. Giving a four star rating since shipping took so long.

The condition was to be expected and would have been fine if it was the cover that was shown. I know it’s the little things but I am trying to organize a collection and the cover I received was not up to par. The condition of the book is ok but otherwise I was not impressed.

This book is one of the favorites of teenagers everywhere. The way Riordan combines the lives of seemingly normal teens with the ancient mythology of the Greeks is masterful. It is so easy to become rapt in this book because it appeals to a younger sense of self and it entertains through adventures. The age group is for younger readers, but trhis book should be recommended for any age group. Bringing back the ancient mythology everyone learned about in High Schhol, this NY Times bast seller deserves a 10/10 star rating. Amazing book!!!
This is going to make an excellent gift my granddaughter
