The last of the Heisei Gamera Trilogy made in the 1990s, I have never had the chance to watch this film until I found a DVD at a price I could justify. While the wait was very long, IMHO it has been worth the effort to find this and finally get to view this. Gamera: Guardian of the Universe blew my socks off when I first watched it - this was not the Saturday afternoon turtle that I grew up with but a modern classic. Number 2, The Attack of the Legion showed even more maturing writing and a view into other people's legends and spiritual beliefs. Revenge of Iris is the culmination of the saga that negative feelings are by nature destructive and that hope can be more powerful than imagined. Many have described the ending as bleak and sad - I do not share this interpretation at all. To me it showed that people can change and if they do the outcome of things can change with them. Yes, very Dickens like, but this is what I took from the film's ending. This is not an ending with no hope but rather a beginning with new hope. Those of you who have only seen the first two will love this one, especially if you take my advice concerning the ending to heart. But no matter how anyone looks at it, nokaiju collection could be without all three of these films.Read full review
If you think of Godzilla or Gamera as a guy in a rubber suit knocking over cardboard boxes with windows painted on them...you WERE right. That's how it was in the 60's and 70's. If you loved these movies as a kid, then you need to check out this new Gamera series. This movie is the 3rd of a 3 movie saga in which you see Gamera return and bring suitimation to a whole new level. This movie has been hailed as the best kaiju movie ever made. This movie was made in 1999 on a tiny budget and it could go toe to toe with anything coming out of Hollywood right now. Be sure to see this Trilogy in order. Gamera: Gaurdian of the Universe and Gamera: Advent of Legion are the first 2. This movie strays from the kiddie friendly theme and tends to go to a darker place, which is what makes this movie stand out from the rest. Sporting some impressive CGI for its genre, this movie is sure to please Godzilla fans and casual movie goers alike.Read full review
This is the absolute greastest movie I have ever seen. I have seen it twice and I hope to see it again soon. The plot was good, the characters were o.k. and the special effects were the greatest including Gamera. I decided to buy it because I am a Gamera fan, and I need Gamera 3 to complete my heisei collection. Gamera-Revenge of Iris is the best Gamera movie of all the rest.
