Save your old NiMH batteries, don't recycle them!
We try to use rechargeable batteries whenever possible to minimize toxic material in the waste stream. As a plus, using rechargeables is also a money-saver. So when our 10-year old Panasonic NiMH batteries began to loose capacity a web search was in order. Came across a web site wherein a gentleman was discussing internal battery chemistry and discussing why the charger that was supplied by the manufacturer may not be optimal. He recommended this charger. As the cost for the charger on Ebay was less than replacing all our batteries, buying this charger was a natural. After receiving the charger, we took the 2 very worst batteries and tested them using the BC-700's "Test" function. One had capacity of 352 mah, the other 793 mah. Rated capacity was up to 2500 mah. This showed how much they had deteriorated. After using the BC-700's "refresh" option, both batteries jumped up to the 1700 mah range and actual use shows them to be as near new in performance. Amazing! Additionally, when the BC-700 is done charging, it will hold the batteries fully charged by a very low "trickle" charge of approximately 17 mah, so they will not loose charge as ALL batteries do regardless of type. The BC-700 will charge at 3 rates, we have found excellent results at the lowest charge rate, 200 mah. In closing, if you are willing to read instructions and use the product as it was intended you will not be disappointed. However, be aware that functions such as "refresh" may stretch out the charge cycle to several days. Bu you can just use 1 slot for "refresh" while the other 3 will charge at the excellent default low rate of 200 mah, which may take about 8 hours to finish. Or refresh first, then reset the charger to the higher charge rates, making it into a quick charger. This is one versatile unit. Just can't say enough about it. Thank you for reading this review. It is not often you will get something that actually seems to exceed the claims the manufacturer makes for it. That is why we are so enthusiastic about this product.

This charger charges Nimh batteries properly, keeps them charged properly, and tells you how much your "3000 maH " really hold. The only reason I question whether it is a good value is that at $35.00 plus, it seems a little pricey to me. On the other hand, it's the only charger I have ever had that is worth it. If you want to get your batteries charged to their maximum, and know what that maximum is, then this is your charger.This charger charges Nimh batteries properly, keeps them charged properly, and tells you how much your "3000 maH " really hold. The only reason I question whether it is a good value is that at $35.00 plus, it seems a little pricey to me. On the other hand, it's the only charger I have ever had that is worth it. Pricey but a good charger.
So far it has recovered 4 batteries that I had ruined with a cheap fast charger. It's a bit overpriced but if it helps with all of my many rechargeable batteries then it's worth it. It's a bit complex but can be used in a simple charge mode too. Some modes of recovery take 1 1/2 days. So far I like it.

Great, but keep your "dumb" charger handy
Like any of today's electronic wizardry, this looks complicated and intimidating at first glance. The instructions don't do a great job of clearing things up. It's easy to just charge a set of batteries- plug it in, put batteries in, and let it go. Other functions require sequential pushing/toggling of buttons to get where you need to go. Having said that, it is great for reviving old batteries. I dug some old AA NiMh out of a drawer. About 1/3 of them indicated they were charging, the other 2/3 read "null" on the charger- which means they are dead. I got out my old "dumb" quick charger and put them in there for about 15 minutes. They took a little charge, but not much. I put them back in the LaCrosse, and lo and behold, they were taking a charge, again, not much. I set them up to run ... Like any of today's electronic wizardry, this looks complicated and intimidating at first glance. The instructions don't do a great job of clearing things up. The downside to this charger is, as I mentioned, it's a little tough to navigate through the options at first, but not too bad once you figure it out. My second complaint is the display is way too small- I am far sighted and need a magnifying glass to read the small type. A backlight would greatly help, too. Overall, kind of expensive, but if it saves enough batteries, will easily pay for itself.

This charger can independently charge each cell, also it fully discharges before charge, you can set the rate of draw to as low as 100ma and charge at only 200ma to preserve overall battery life (you can also choose 2 higher settings if in a hurry, or if you have an old battery that won't fully charge at 200ma) It also has a refresh mode where it will continuously discharge and charge measuring each time until it sees little or no increase (Refresh Mode). On the readout it will only show 3 digits, so 955ma capacity vs 24.5 (for approximately 2450ma) I own FIVE of these, so that I can discharge and recharge all of my batteries on the shelf every few months (It does take 1 day to draw down 2400ma battery if fully charged and another 12 hours to charge since I always use the lowest ...
