When I originally read the reviews of this filter, a lot of people remarked that it was loud. The motor is not as loud as I thought it would be, mostly the sound of the water falling back into the tank… Which I find rather peaceful and soothing, like a babbling brook. Sorry to say but its too loud.
I was replacing my old Tetra filter that finally died after 14 years of service. I was very disappointed to see how loud this filter was. I used this filter for a week hoping to get used to the noise but had to remove it. I hope Tetra fixes this issue as the old unit I had was truly whisper quite. I don't like to write negative reviews, but this product missed the mark. I cannot comment on how well this filter cleaned the water since I only had it in service for a week but the noise had the whole family complaining. I think the impeller is not running true inside the motor and the vibration is whats making the noise. Hopefully Tetra can fix this issue on future models.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

BEST FILTER CLEAR WATER
I just ordered a new filter but am still using the same one from 10 years ago. The water in the tank is so clear it looks better than tap water :) If you dont want to use the canister this is the best filter out there. I tried other filters because I couldn't find this one and let me tell you they were more expensive and they don't work good at all plus you get the bonus where your smart big fish can hit the tab on the side and break it or you have to fix it daily. I highly recommend this filter and would give it a 10 star rating

Not quite what i had in mind
Have used whisper filters before and really liked them. This one however is much noisier than anticipated, no idea why. Have played with the water flow amount in hopes of quieting it a bit, no luck. Noisy pump
The pump for this filter is a little noisy. The whirring noise has gotten louder in 2 weeks since I bought it. I run the filter with the suction valve open halfway. When the valve is fully open, the pump impeller rattles very loudly.
