    Great little linux box

Got it in, downloaded the mac specific Debian (specific just for booting the CD). Booted straight from the cd, installed Debian, added mbpfan (for fan control), and have a small, quiet, low power box that is great for basic usage. Internet browser, email, it even handles most youtube videos fine, although full HD does stutter a tiny bit. Intel based Mac Minis do NOT work well with the older 85W (A1105) power supplies. You can get it to run by holding the power button as you plug the power in, counting to 10, then releasing and re-pressing the power button. This will power on, but the fan will run at full speed at all times, even with OSX or Linux mbpfan loaded. You'll really want to get a 110W (A1188 works well) power supply so the fan can be controlled/quieted.

These make great little media players

I have a couple of these old Minis running Snow Leopard and using Front Row as a media streamer. The only major negative is the big clunky external power supply.

  • old but still usable.

the mac i received had the 950 video/chipset so not the fastest thing out there. i've installed a fresh copy of Mac OS 10.7 and upgraded to 2GB of RAM and a 320GB HDD. this machine is still pretty usable but software and updates for 10.7 have been long discontinued. this little machine is also capable of running windows 7 and could likely be used as a secondary office PC for light browsing or office use. overall an older product but if you're not expecting a gaming PC still very usable.

  • Good unit for my purpose

I bought this to transfer video from an old Sony digital 8 camcorder. Some of the tapes were even from an earlier camcorder than the one I presently own. Since FireWire ports are removed from newer Mac machines and old Sony camcorders don’t talk to current iMovie I had to replicate a 10 year old system. After some initial issues it does exactly what I wanted

  • Great Machine, even now.

Great machine with factory specs of 1GB memory and the 80GB hard drive when running on Leopard. I've upgraded this machine to 4GB of ram (2gb sticks x 2) will read a max of 3.3GB. Upgraded the processor to T7200 Core 2 Duo and an SSD hard drive. Runs extremely fast on Lion. Only drawback is the Operating system, a lot of applications are not supported on Lion even browsers are starting to become "unsafe" as the developers are no longer supporting bug fixes for the older OS's. There are ways of upgrading to newer Operating systems, you are just limited by the video card on this machine.

  • Switch Up

I never intended this computer to be a stand alone OSX Mac computer, but rather a part of an integrated security system, that was small and reliable. Upping the RAM to 4 GB, and the HD to 500GM, then loading GNU/Linux Debian 8.3 made this system fly -- even with a 1.83 Ghz processor. Obviously, this is not a current equipment system, but older systems modified, upgraded and updated with different but current software, old systems can perform well up into the league of modern systems; and they can become an integral part of a larger scheme or system and perform well. This Mac mini is doing quite well, thank you.

  • Great product!!

Not slow at all!!! The keyboard and mouse didn’t work at first but just needed battery... other than that works great. Also the profile when I first turned it on asked for a password but I soon realized that the password was nothing. Thanks so much! Definitely a steal

  • Works great! good buy.

There was a couple screws bouncing around inside the machine. I had to take a part and replace them but other then that perfect for what I need. I did also have to find a DVI for the display but still worth it. Thank you
