A very good course covering the very complex era from the end days of the western part of the Roman Empire through the early formation of Europe, early Christianity, the rise of Islam, the Viking era (including the history of early England) and so much more. Goths, Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Celts, Scoti, Picts , sometimes you can’t tell a tribe even with a score card. Told with a sense of humor the course takes us through all of the myriad migrations and conflicts that seem to make modern political science seem simple by comparison. The course doesn’t directly say so but the inevitable conclusion from this period of history is that no one had time for science or learning because every one was trying to kill and conquer every one else. For history and/or political science fans this course is a must.
Fascinating history class! My husband and I have been mostly staying at home during COVID-19 and have been looking for interesting classes to watch. We are both history buffs and it seemed appropriate to learn more about the "Dark Ages" or early middle ages in 2020. This course has really kept our interest and we look forward to watching it! The professor is very knowledgeable and funny.
