Straight to DVD...hmmm wonder why
Pulse 3 takes us to 7 years after the plague and follows a now rebellious 17 year old Justine on a mission to meet a person she chats with using a computer. Reasons for not liking this movie: Too many plotholes, forgettable characters, very lame ending. Too Many plotholes: Why is Justine using technology when it not only killed her parents but most of civilization? Why didn't she die? What makes her so special that none of the specters don't kill her the whole time she's chatting with Adam, who she thinks she knows and loves...what? I know teens can be blind to things, but that blind. What was the purpose of showing Adam's girlfriend dying? Yes it was his first encounter with the pulse, but what did it have to do with him becoming a spectre and trying to ... She could have easily killed her daughter pretty much any time with the laptop, and the stray cell phone. Lame ending: I won't give details in case somebody really wants to buy it but it left me wanting to so much more. Trust me, just rent it.

Series went out with a whimper.
"Pulse" was a good film, it was effective and creepy. It had genuine characters trying to deal with the coming death of society, and you felt the world slowly dissolving and the sense of being "alone"; the rejection of death. That was the whole theme in "Pulse", the loneliness of dying and the unacceptance of loss, especially our own. "Pulse 2" came along and was a huge step down. Not a bad film and it was effective as a horror piece, but even the smallest amount of plausibility was lost as well as any sense of "philosophy" to the madness on screen. I guess that's what happens when you lose such a thorough film genius as Wes Craven, his touch was very evident in "Pulse" and it shows his capabilities all the more with the ... "Pulse" was a good film, it was effective and creepy. "Pulse 3" takes place some years later after "Pulse 2", but now focused on a side character all grown up and in her teens. What's left of society lives in an "amish" like survivalistic tribe where they bash technology as a terror and you half expect a cart to be rolling around Kool Aid that'll "change your life". And within a few minutes she's found a computer, turned it on, and instantly starts up a chat with a boy we were introduced to earlier in the film. He convinces her to travel to the forbidden city where he is, and following the string of implausibilities the Pulse sequels thrive on, she naturally journies to the "big city". The thing that ruins "Pulse 3" is that we just don't care. All the issues the characters must endure are their own fault, and you see others slaughtered for their stupidity; instantly I stopped caring for our "heroine". In fact she annoyed me. Every decision she made, every word she said. The film was just a terror because she caused so much mayhem and we are expected to feel for her with her Sarah Connor inspired monologue at the end showing us how she's learned the basics of living and some analogy to amish life. The speech is supposed to show character growth, depth, and an understanding of living that the dead want...something stupid like that. Point is we don't care, we're still in anger she's alive. I just hated the implausibility of everything. Nothing seemed practical, nothing a character did seemed rational, and certainly how the Kevin Zeiger boy from the first 2 films survived this long unaged is a miracle to me, but that's not explained either. Instead he goes from passive, good natured computer geek to raving lunatic bent on destroying everything...kinda jumped the shark for a plot point. "Pulse 3" is purely a money cow. No heart, no soul, jut a quickly thought up film that was shot on a shoestring. The script is littered with scenes that will quickly alienate it's audience. The film is 90% shot against a gree screen and it's nagging; plus it hinders the actors' abilities I'm sure. Every scene looks fake because it is. I have nothing good to say about "Pulse 3", it was one of those movies that you keep looking at the timer to see how much longer for the suffering to end. I can't recomend this one. Maybe to a person who enjoyed the first films, but only to conclude that nagging curiosity to see how the trilogy ends. Other than that, stick to the first because nothing is gained by the sequels. Unless you enjoy agony, frustration, or a life devoid of ration and fun.

Although I didn't see Pulse 2, I really enjoyed the concept behing the first Pulse and Pulse 3 did not disappoint me. A friend told me she could not understand what it was all about (Pulse 1) but she is not a fan of paranormal, thriller or horror movies. At least rent it if you like these type of movies. I did!
