Purchased without manual or disc to transfer designs. Manual was available for download from Bernina website. Brother PED-Basic works perfect for transferring designs to the machine. Easy to use for beginner embroidery sewist. Quality machine. Size of each design is limited to 4 x 4 but can combine patterns. Not as sophisticated as some of the newer machines and does not have a USB port. Very good value for the price point.

Hello out there... After my recent retirement I began quilting. I give my quilts as gifts and donate them to charity auctions. I wanted to embroider my name and create labels for my quilts and decided an embroidery machine would be the way to go. I knew nothing about machine embroidery so I wanted an entry level, inexpensive one. I saw the Bernina Bernette Deco 600 on ebay and read wonderfull reviews about it in on-line forums, and the price was right. Since I still use the Elna sewing machine I purchased in 1973 and believe that older machines were built better than newer ones, I wasn't put off that the Deco 600 maybe 20+ years old. The Deco I purchased works very well, was easy to learn, and I am very happy with it. The needle threader is finicky and either doesn't work well or I haven't mastered it yet, but I like knowing I can still thread a needle by hand anyway. This hobby requires a lot a thread changes and needle threadings. What I didn't realize was that machine embroidery is a very addictive habit. Since purchasing my machine I have also purchased design cards, a converter box, an extra blank card and a cap hoop, not to mention the consumables (threads, stabilizers, needles, etc.). Depending on what you want to embroider, you will need additional stuff! You will WANT additional stuff! Since my purchase I have seen Deco's on ebay selling with all these (and more) accessories included for less than my total expenditures. My husband says I need to stop looking! The Deco 600 is an old machine with a small 4"x4" embroidery field and although it has several built in designs it uses expensive cards ($50-$189) if you want (and you will) to expand the selection of designs. A converter box allows downloading of free designs and purchasing less expensive designs on CD. If you get a Deco, get a converter box, even though it only holds six designs at a time. My main disappointment in the machine is that it doesn't have a built-in script font and that the smallest font is still too big to use as a "signature" (especially if you have a long name!). I'm still looking for a reasonably priced small script alphabet font on ebay. As much as I love the Deco, I can't help wondering if I should have paid more and purchased a newer machine with USB connectivity. I may do so, (far in the future), if I actually complete all the projects that are currently in my head and heart! If the Bernina Bernette Deco 600 is the machine in your price range, I would highly recommend it. I would also recommed you spend a little more for one that is selling with extra cards and accessories included.Read full review
When I first got it I plugged it in the machine lit up made a noise then went off now completely dead the inside was rusty and not in a good way so I took it to a machine specialist not worth mending at all

I have had a Deco 600 for over 8 years and it is a great product. I have used the one I have endlessly with no mechanical problems while having routine maintainance done about once a year. The Deco 600 is no longer available from Bernina. The unit purchased is in perfect shape, has been well cared for and will make an excelent addition to my sewing room.
