Reviews
'Bliss... all the places rose up like visions, and I walked through the house as though I had lived there myself', 'Unique and subtle... More poignant than E. F. Benson, more believable than Anita Brookner, rivalling the best of William Plomer, this captivating novel speaks with a humane and civilised voice, suffused with a kind of irony. I would like to hear more from it'

Synopsis
Henry and Helen Williamson arrive on the French Riviera looking for a house. Barely thirty, Henry has been forced to retire from the Indian Civil Service due to ill health. The dream-like Villa Lou Paradou enchants them. Carefully they build a life of comfort, with Helen creating a beautiful garden and Henry enjoying the pleasures of the tennis club, the drama society and the company of wounded English officers - the shadow over them is not only Henry's health, but the European conflict. As the story unfolds we see a portrait of a marriage freighted with the seeds of its own destruction as the gifted husband is ensnared by his wife's neuroses, and the paradise they have created for themselves is eaten away from within., Henry and Helen Williamson set up a new life on the French Riviera but the impact of war and the stifling conventions of class on his parents are seen through the eyes of their elder son Charles, who reveals the drama and passions of their lives.

500 words wont be enough for my experience, but I'll try. Ordered this signed book from this seller. A few days after it shipped I got a message saying I was being refunded because they noticed some foxing and spotting to the book not in the description. After being refunded, the seller still sent me the book as well as another signed copy from the same author as an apology gift. I want to say so much more about the integrity of this seller, but cant. This is a reliable, honest seller. BUY HERE!

This seller is amazing. The book was packed like fort Knox. It was well protected and came in better than described. The seller included several bookmarks and some of those bookmarks had other book stores on them. He also included a personal thank you for the purchase. This is a seller to buy from for sure! 😁
