I have been intrigued by the Foveon sensor for years so despite a lot of negative comments about the camera, I took the plunge. Yes the facilities are very basic, the screen is poor, the write speeds are very slow, the high ISO performance is awful, fixed focal length is a big restriction and buttons are plasticky. However all is forgiven once you see the pictures (I shoot Raw) The image quality is astounding. Super sharp at all apertures and right to the edges, massive abouts of detail, great colours, good dynamic range, superb tonal gradation and amazing ability in Sigma Pro to control highlights. The actual operation of the camera is very nice, I find it very easy to get to the settings I need. Build quality apart from the buttons is excellent. I now have a camera that fits in my jacket pocket that outperforms my Canon 40D even when fitted with a good optics despite being "only" 5 M-pixels. An outstanding product if IQ is your top priority.Read full review
I wanted a digital camera like this to use in the same way that I've used my small fixed lens film camera ( ROLLEI 35 ) and the results have been just as rewarding. As well as the excellent quality of photo-images the major plus points are a) it's well-built and sturdy b) the fixed lens is sharp c) it's easy to use as the autofocus is accurate and quick d) the manual capabilty is useful e.g. if you wish to emphasise details which the light sensor cannot readily detect. The video features don't interest me ; if I want to take a video I'd use a cam-corder. SIGMA DSLR (SD14) which I use for work and the DP2x image quality is comparable. verdict :- This is a superb little camera !
