It Can Work...
There is not enough bonded rubber which allows the new mount to twist like a worn mount. Remedy is to grind the crossbar tack welds and remove the crossbar..Fill in the rounded upper hollows with thick rubber, etc. A bench grinder is used to trim the rubber to fit the hollows. A hot-melt glue gun or silicon secures the rubber blocks. Tack weld the crossbar back in and paint. There will be no excessive flex in the mount.
