  • A thought-provoking, art-house war movie worth a watch.

This is the 'thinking man's' war movie, or more accurately, anti-war movie. It is not of the more traditional action/drama style as 'Saving Private Ryan' - it moves at a slow pace, is full of contemplation on life, and has a strong focus on cinematography, contrasting the beauty of nature with the horror of war. The Pacific War was obviously a very different war to the War in Europe, much closer to the Vietnam War in nature. The movie is full of very recognisable actors, in relatively minor roles. If you're looking for an action blockbuster, this is not the movie. If you're looking for a depiction of the reality of war, then I'd say it is.
