So far I’ve tried GHS, DR and Ernie’s Ball flats on other basses. This D’Addario flats is a little bit rougher although a legitimate flat wound string. My Squier Rascall Bass has gained full bodied old school thump and now it sits between my favorite basses.

The best bass strings you can buy

D'addario's Chromes flatwound bass strings are superb. Period. I put them on my Rickenbacker 4003 and fell instantly in love with them. Unless you're a jazz snob, flatwounds are absolutely the way to go. They're easy on your fingertips, they fret solidly, and they sound fine. Yes, arguably they produce fewer partial overtones than roundwounds, but most people can't hear the difference. I sure can't, and I've been playing for over 45 years. What elevates D'addario Chromes above other flatwounds is their chrome plating. It gives the strings as silky, almost buttery feel that practically begs you to play them for hours at a time. Coupled with the improved force distribution of the flatwound profile, that makes them a true no-brainer for serious bass players - and the fact that they're ...

  • Flats

These strings are great. Medium scale works perfectly for Fender Mustang and Hofner scale bass. These flats take about a week to break in. But once that happens they are very nice and long lasting. I've converted about 4 friends after they have tried them out.

  • Great product for the money

This is a reasonably-priced product for anyone who wants flat-wound bass guitar strings, and you get the quality of the D'Addario brand name. I got the light-gauge strings; next time I think I'll try the medium-gauge strings on my Gibson EB-0. I am not a professional musician, but I have been playing in garage bands for about twenty years.
