Real Champions-Real Cars
For many years, if you were caught speeding in England, you would be greeted with, "who do you think you are, Stirling Moss". I have it on good authority that speeding motorists on the continent were asked much the same thing, but it was Fangio's name at the end of the question. Quite a coincidence then that they should end up on the same team, Silver Arrows, driving the same cars, Mercedes-Benz. For many years they were great rivals, Fangio however almost always getting the better of Moss. So it was with some relief, that these two teamed up. This film is a tribute then to two masters of motor racing, but this time round the honours go to Fangio. There is footage of some of the races, however, sad to say, not a lot has survived from these great glory days of the old masters. What there ... What there is will however show you the true grit and determination of these 'real drivers' who raced cars without any of the safety features we take for granted in the modern F1 cars. They were just as fast, in fact some were a lot more powerful, and you needed more than your fair share of luck as well as skill to win races in them. Fangio did just that, time and time again, year after year. He did it with grace, with dignity, and with honour. He did not need to push people off the track to win. He won on his own skill and merit. A good film to watch, a must for anyone who gets their kicks from motor sport. This man was a Champion.

People like Schumacher are good at what they do but you have to wonder how they would have faired against the true mastery of the sport against such drivers as fangio,Moss,Nuvolari, and the like Fangio was the top of this tree and acheived more than anyone else at his level of motorsport in cars that were dificult to drive at best and dangerous at worst you have to remember this was before seat belts and crash helmets or fire suits in cars that were faster than grand prix cars of today the w196 mercedes was capable of 252 miles per hour in 1956 a modern formula one will do only 212 and as Nigel Mansell found out when he drove one of the jordan cars a few years back that compared with the cars he had driven it was too easy and a child could drive it the maserati 250f was 30 years earlier ... An excellent over-view of the career of the greatest driver ever to grace F1. A nostalgic look back to a time when one could see a driver at work, and his car was a thing of beauty rather than an advertising hoarding.
