Funny,silly and one that you will watch over again
Bought this whilst browsing ebay for as a gift for my sister. She is a Ben Stiller and Geoffrey Rush fan and had never come across Mystery Men, so it was a real treat for her and the family to watch. It is not the best Ben Stiller film but It has a brilliant cast, all of whom are very funny and had us crying with laughter. If you need cheering up this film will certainly help.

Mystery Men is a superhero movie with a difference. Based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name, the movie introduces us to Captain Amazing who, bored with the fact that there are now no more supervillains to fight, arranges for his greatest nemesis, Casanova Frankenstein, to be released from prison. But Amazing falls foul of Casanova and his evil henchmen. Who will save Champion City now? Enter the Mystery Men, a group of inept wannabe superheroes, consisting of Mr. Furious, The Shoveller, The Bowler, The Blue Raja, The Sphinx, The Spleen and The Invisible Boy. Armed with shovels, bowling balls, forks and other unlikely weapons, this ragtag group leave chaos in their wake as they endeavor to save the city. It's clear that everyone had a great time filming this movie, with ... Mystery Men is a superhero movie with a difference. The Blame Thrower may sound pretty tame, but witness the havoc that ensues when it's unleashed! All in all, Mystery Men is the perfect movie if you're in the mood for something light and frothy! Pour yourself a glass of wine, put your feet up and prepare to be entertained!

Pitched perfectly between a satire, spoof & loving homage to superheroes, this adaptation of Bob Burden's anarchic comic about blue collar superheroes is brilliant. The cast are believeable, the action well paced without looking to ropey & the design great. The only critcism for this film is that it feels a bit like a set up for a franchise rather than a stand alone film, however this is a minor quibble over all. It has the greatest superheroes ever to grace the screen, it has unforgettable dialogue, and it is the only film ever made that brings together a truly A list cast and then makes them make do with non lethal weapons designed by Tom Waits. If you watch no other superhero movie this year, watch this one. Quite apart from all it's other wonderful features (Hank Azaria's forks! William H. Macy's shovel! Ben Stiller getting a bit grumpy sometimes!) hear the conversation that we've all wanted to have at some point in every other superhero movie.... "If we had a billioniare like Lance Hunt as our benefactor -" "That's because Lance Hunt IS Captain Amazing." "Don't start that again. Lance Hunt wears glasses, Captain Amazing DOESN'T wear ...
