Synopsis
Henry Fleming was abandoned shortly after birth, and spent most of his childhood in group homes. Like most kids raised in that environment, all Henry wanted was to feel like a normal kid. When He was ten years old, Henry discovered he could lift cars and crush rocks. Being normal was no longer an option. Afraid of what would happen if his superpowers were discovered, Henry kept them hidden, and using them only on rare occasions when he had no choice but to discretely intervene. Along his remarkable journey, Henry met three other people; each possessing very unique powers. Each asking the same question Henry did. What is my purpose? They all eventually arrived at the same answer. To protect the good, by destroying evil. They called themselves the Unbeatables. Strongman, Flyman, Speedwoman, and Invisibleman. They were superhero pioneers. But they also had their own alter-egos, which created internal and external conflicts, both individually and collectively. But it also created a sense of belonging, friendship, and in the case of Henry (Strongman) and Speedwoman, love. New York City was being systematically crippled by crimes committed in a very organized fashion. Communities and neighborhoods were paralyzed with fear. Just when all hope seemed lost, the tide turned. Rumors spread about a group of renegade crime fighters with extraordinary powers. As a result of their heroic efforts, The Unbeatables introduced the world to what would be called Genetic Variations (Genvars). Soon, more Genvars came out of hiding. But their assimilation into society was met with resistance and trepidation. Civil unrest was threatening the very foundation of the country. The government held controversial hearings to deal with the fear and unrest that was crippling the country. Genvars desperately needed a leader to unite and represent them. They wanted Strongman. After defeating evil, Strongman's alter ego, Henry Fleming was expecting to take the driver's seat back from Strongman. He had his own dreams to follow, which didn't include snapping necks or deflecting bullets. He just wanted to fade into obscurity and live an anonymous life alongside Speedwoman. But was the rest of the world ready to let go of Strongman, or the Unbeatables? Through his own chronological narrative, Henry Fleming gives us an unabashed accounting of his extraordinary life. Whether it's the searing pain of a broken heart, the unapologetic dispensing of justice, or his lifelong search for the answer to the same question we each ask ourselves. Why Am I here? Strongman and Henry Fleming invite you to read their story. "Sometimes it's not who we think we are that matters as much as who other people believe we are." Henry Fleming
