Once again Warner Brothers has handed us a great collection of 60 shorts. Each disc of 4 contains 15 cartoons and has it's own theme. Disc One celebrates the duo of Bugs and Daffy Disc Two pokes fun at Fairy Tales Disc Three showcases the talents of the great animator Bob Clampett Disc Four features many black & whites of the earliest cartoons (many Porkys) You also get a ton of extra features including, 3 Looney Tunes Specials starring Bugs Bunny, Bugs Bunny show commercials gallery, commentaries and behind-the-scenes featurettes with animators, historians, and voice artists, Salutes to the legends, Chuck Jones, Robert McKimson, and the unsung Maestros. There is also the great rarities from the vault, including Private SNAFU and Mr. Hook. The set runs 417 minutes and is presented in Dolby Digital. Some of the cartoons are aimed at adults and there is a disclaimer on the box. I let my young children watch however as most of the subtle humor goes over there heads. Another great set worth buying.Read full review
It's amazing to me that 5 volumes in these packages still feel like A quality material. This set has one whole disc of earlier material and one disc devoted to Bob Clampett, so there's plenty of 30's and early 40's cartoons.Giving us a great insight into characters development over the years. I'm not much of a fan of most DVD's bonus materials (don't you watch them once, then never again?), so not a big influence on my enjoyment. If you love bonus stuff, you may be a little disappointed, as they do seem a little slapdash after-thought.
Excellent transfers. My problem is the haphazard way the 6 volume collection was produced. Now there is a Tex Avery Vol.1 and a complete Porky Pig edition. Complete Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies is what I've been waiting for decades, since VHS (the laserdisc collection was more complete).

The Golden Collection is exactly what was advertised- old Looney Tunes cartoons. The quality is excellent and we have had no problems with the DVDs. The way they are packaged inside the cases makes them easy to scratch but you just need to handle with care. We bought this DVD because contemporary cartoons are lame and not readily available if you don't have cable or satellite. Overall, they are a great value and have reminded my husband and me of our childhood Saturday mornings getting up early just to watch cartoons.
If you enjoyed the first four Looney Tunes Golden Collections, you will not be disappointed with the fifth helping. The usual much loved characters appear and as a bonus, there are cartoons featuring SNAFU and Mr. Hook on the bonus features. Like on the other collections there are plenty of extras including a great interview with the cartooning legend, Chuck Jones. There is plenty to learn and to enjoy.
