Three student filmmakers venture into the most isolated region of Norway on a mission to confront a notorious bear poacher, and discover that the elusive hunter's true prey is something far more extraordinary when they begin hearing rumors that giant trolls lurk deep in the countryside. Thomas, Kalle, and Johanna thought they were pursuing a criminal, but after locating Hans with the help of some local hunters, they learn that bears are not his true target, but a mere smokescreen to obscure what he's really after -- trolls. A secret government agency has been conspiring to cover up the existence of these massive monsters, but occasionally the trolls manage to break their containment area. When that happens, it falls on Hans to capture the creatures at all costs. Trolls are highly sensitive to sunlight, and traditional weapons only make them angry. Instead of carrying a gun, Hans carries an enormous UV light capable of stopping even the fiercest of trolls dead in its tracks. The only way that humans can travel in the area undetected is to cover their bodies in a foul-smelling concoction that makes them invisible to the troll's highly developed sense of smell. Lately, the long hours and grueling work conditions have been taking their toll on Hans, so when the student filmmakers show up looking for a good story, he decides that it's time for the truth to come out, no matter what the cost. Now, if the group can just survive long enough to get their incredible footage to the outside world, they could be responsible for revealing the most impressive cryptozoological discovery in the history of humankind.

Variety - Enormously entertaining chiller., New York Times - One of the many pleasures of the Norwegian director AndrΘ Ovredal's clever and engaging mock documentary Trollhunter is the way it plays with the idea of the supernatural rule book., Chicago Reader - The film is shot with handheld cameras in the standard mockumentary style, but the content is often hilarious, especially when the trolls show up. There's also a marvelous deadpan comic performance by Otto Jespersen as a troll-hunter and tireless dispenser of troll lore., Hollywood Reporter - The Troll Hunter injects inventiveness, folkloric idiosyncrasy and deadpan humor into the overexploited faux-documentary trend. A generous dollop of "Jurassic Park" inspiration doesn't hurt either.

    Great movie

    Brought this for my language nerd of a self, can not tell you how pleased I am with the result - usually sceptical about buying DVDs in different languages because you can't tell if it's just the box in the different language, or if it's even a Disk that can be played in your region. This Disk is all that it says it is -- Norwegian language W/ English subtitles! Can not wait to watch it -- I'm surprising myself with it for Christmas. Girls gotta treat herself, you know? Plus I was feeling left out...brought all my family presents but not me I'm sure the film is very entertaining as the blurb on the box took a hold of me when reading and I was pretty much transfixed with the mindset of "I. Must. Have. This!" Luckily for me my bank account wasn't as dry as the Sahara Desert - So I was and ...

    Story,effects and scenery good-Spoilt by trying to market to U.S. teens.

    As I have spent quite a bit of time living and working in Scandinavia this colours my opinion. This movie was fun and interestingly shot- most of the characters and certainly the scenery and special effects were very good....however the two young main protagonists were FAR from what I recognise as modern Norwegian youth and seemed to owe more to an attempt to market this movie to teenagers mainly in the U.S. ...which a shame as there are many very admirable and energetic pragmatic and adventurous young Scandinavians....though perhaps increasing urbanisation is taking it's toll there ,too. I was disappointed in the 'preppy' wimps as portrayed -at least in the English soundtracked version which spoiled the overall experience .....any real Troll hunter would have left them behind VERY early ...

    Troll Hunter ... brilliant film!!! Enjoy :-)

    An excellent film, thoroughly enjoyed it. Its done in the style of The Blair Witch Project, a hand held camara effort. Just take the film for what it is and dont over analyse it. The story line keeps moving well and the topic of Trolls actually filmed in Norway was inspired, not some Hollywood glitz rubbish. The film is actually in Norwegian, but you can have subtitles on if you wish. Basically the story follows some college reporters who stumble across a strange guy who has appeared just as certain odd things have started happening to the local farm life, ie cattle and sheep. They start to follow the chap and much to their disbelief hear he is a Troll hunter. Basically he takes them on board and they tag along and learn that Trolls are not just things of legend and folk lore. In fact some ...

    Silly in the best way

    Blair witch style student road trip that gets mixed up with a conspiracy to hide the existence of trolls (the big scary kind not the short hairy sort). Gory in parts, occasionally laugh out loud funny, and sometimes just daft an excellent way to spen a couple of hours with friends
