About this product

Product Information

Winner of THE HW FISHER BEST FIRST BIOGRAPHY PRIZE SPECTATOR BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2012 SUNDAY TIMES, DAILY TELEGRAPH, TLS, FINANCIAL TIMES, GUARDIAN, DAILY MAIL and SUNDAY TELEGRAPH BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2011 'He were a dark prince, and infinitely suspicious, and his times full of secret conspiracies and troubles' Sir Francis Bacon In his remarkable debut, Penn vividly recreates the dark and turbulent reign of Henry VII. He traces the transformation of a young, vulnerable boy, Prince Henry, into the aggressive teenager who would become Henry VIII, and of Catherine of Aragon, his future queen. And at the book's heart is the tragic, magnetic figure of Henry VII - controlling, paranoid, avaricious, with a Machiavellian charm and will to power.

Excellent item, as described, in good condition and great quality. Very efficient in posting after payment received. Excellent postage cost. Great service from seller but same can't be said for the Royal Mail which as a seller you can't control and I am aware of that. However, Royal Mail did locate my stack of book's after a phone call to Customer Services. I am really looking forward to doing business with you in the not so distant future. Thank you again.

  • Fascinating and easy to read hitory book.

Fascinating book about the founder of the Tudor Dynasty, King Henry VII, the father of Henry VIII. He usurped the throne from the rightful king, King Richard III, who unlike his depiction in Shakespeare (a wonderful piece of propoganda for the Tudors) was well thought of by the people. THe book covers the period from the Battle of Bosworth Fielde where he killed Richard to his death. Well worth the read, particularly if you are interested in history and the beginning of the Tudor dynasty.

  • Detail, detail,detail ~

If you are looking for details about the world-wide characters who featured during the reign of Henry VII, this is the book for you. When you read it, ( meaning me ) you have to stand well back to keep track of who is who and why they are significant. I recommend it precisely because it has so much information about people, but the cumulative influence that they had on the nature of Henry's reign is something that I most certainly had to reflect upon having completed reading the book. 'Compelling ' for me means that I cannot put it down ~ I had to, to assimilate the wealth of information. I definitely feel I will have to read it again to get maximum benefit of what is a seminal insight into a very complex character Do I know more about Henry VII now ? ~ Most certainly, but more than that ...
