A flight sim designed for play on the high-def generation consoles, the most compelling features of the Birds of Prey edition of IL-2 are in the details. The game's scenery was created using a combination of satellite images and hundreds of historical photographs, for the most accurate representation of landscapes and ground targets in the Sturmovik series to date. A revamped damage engine adds effects to planes in real-time during combat, such as trail lines and holes in the wings. The game features a scalable difficulty system, allowing users to adjust from a fast and forgiving "arcade" style of play to realistically demanding "simulation"-style settings.<br><br>As in earlier IL-2 Sturmovik games, missions involve airborne combat in the skies above key ground-based military operations. In addition to the title craft, players can fly in famous planes including Germany's BF 109F-4, Britain's Hurricane, and the United States' Spitfire. More than 50 planes are available in all, although some must be unlocked by completing missions and accomplishing other in-game objectives. The game's 50-plus missions are set in six large European theaters of World War II: The Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Berlin, Sicily, the Battle of the Bulge, and Korsun. Multiplayer missions for up to four virtual pilots are available, in four modes of play: "Dogfight," "Team Deathmatch," "Ground Strike," and "Capture the Airstrip."

IL-2 Sturmovik PS3 version
If you've played the demo, you'll pretty much know what you're getting into with this game. The good - graphics are great, realistic damage models, varying skill levels, varied missions. Bombing missions were fun ! The bad - You can land your plane after a mission, but you can't take off before a mission. I also don't like the way you can free-look, by pressing and holding down the R3 joystick. It always slips and you revert back to the front view. Overall this game is a blast to play, and gives me a lot of respect for those pilots who flew these planes in WW2. 8.5/10If you've played the demo, you'll pretty much know what you're getting into with this game. IL-2 Sturmovik Birds of Prey World War 2 Game!!!
If you like history of World War 2 and also thought how it would feel like being in World War 2 this is the game for you. It takes you right in the front lines in a cop pit of a old World War 2 air plane and against the German forces in real air to air combat. The movie scenes are awesome and fun to watch and hearing the pilot talk at the end of every level as how the fight went on that day. The game could have been harder to beat but overall it is good. A must game to play and have. Very realistic and action packed.
IL-2 is a great flying game if you are looking for realism. I personally had a hard time mastering the controls, but my son who loves Flight Simulator thought it was awesome. I still enjoyed the game, but prefer to play Heroes Over The Pacific or Blazing Angels just because the controls are much easier to master. If you want a flying game that is closer to simulator than arcade, this might be the one for you.IL-2 is a great flying game if you are looking for realism. its one of the few combat flight sims available for the ps3. graphics are great and the combat so far is great. 1 problem no flaps available to slow down for combat use in simulator or arcade so i have to use landing gear or tip up. i have not played online yet but this is comparable to the old janes ww2 combat flight games. i would recommend it to any pilot or pilot wanna be its fun. just part way thru the campaign so no total exposure to the complete game. so far i think its excellent.its one of the few combat flight sims available for the ps3. graphics are great and the combat so far is great. 1 problem no flaps available to slow down for combat use in simulator or arcade so i have to use landing gear or tip up. i have not played online yet but this is comparable to the old janes ww2 combat flight games. i would recommend it to any pilot or pilot wanna be its fun. just part way thru the campaign so no total exposure to the complete game. so far i think its excellent.
