Seller notes: “Up for auction, This beautiful Medieval Gladius with double Carp's Tongue blade, dating from the ... “Up for auction, This beautiful Medieval Gladius with double Carp's Tongue blade, dating from the late 15th Century or 16th Century.Following extensive research, this Gladius was found in France and come from the Toledo area.Toledo was a major arms manufacturer at this period.This Gladius is really heavy ( 1792 Grams ), description:From the ricasso to the point, this gladius have a magnificent forged Carp Tongue with central ridge.From the pommel to the cross guard / quillons, we can see an addition of bronze in the forging of steel,a particular technique from the end of the 15th Century, which is found in Toledo.This technique allows for better grip and does not suffer from differences in external temperatures when using the weapon.The forged Edges are exceptionnal.The blade is pretty well assembly / forged in the cross guard to the pommel with the forged pin technique, usual in Toloedo and during this time.Overall, this Gladius measure 588 mm, 23 1/4".”
