Monster in my Pocket! This is not a brochure, nor a technical manual gushing the wonders of Sony's DSC W130 Super Steady Shot camera. (Wow, what a title!) No, these are just some personal opinions and impressions of a fun little camera. Many (or not so many) years ago I picked up an old Kodak 2MP digital camera. It was my first one. The photos were often blurred, colors were crappy and you could not blow up the photo much larger than a 3X5 index card. Horrible. Give me film or give me death! After much soul-searching, I picked up this little baby. Now you may think this silly, but after shooting with a pro film camera SLR for many years, this felt like a toy. It's aluminum shell belied it's toy appearance. Several items of interest for my kind of shooting. There is a cool landscape mode that creates a soft photo especially at sunset and sunrise. The colors not super bright but I'm sure would develop into a decent shot. The smile mode and other "baby" modes (I call them) I have yet to discover. I did enjoy the fact that I could sneak the camera under my elbow and around corners to create fun shots I could never do with my pro camera. The fireworks mode was pretty cool, but it still cannot make the kind of fireworks shots I can make with my SLR film camera. Give it time. Thank goodness for the anti-shake feature. When held steady, you can get great shots. But like all cameras with anti-shake, be sure you turn OFF the feature when you put it on a tripod. Interestingly, your slow shutter shots will have a slight shake to them. There's also an interesting slideshow mode that will play pictures, fade in and out in a fancy way and play music for your enjoyment. Don't know if I can download these slideshows though. So the Sony camera is a handy little guy. The batteries do burn out rather fast, can't last too much longer than a Chinese New Years Parade, so it's a good idea to get a back-up battery pack. Next project: Get a pro SLR digital camera, that can do everything the Sony can, but with interchangeable lenses and instant ISO changing (to compensate for light variance).Read full review
Love this camera. Simple to use. First digital camera for me and I would recommend highly. The simplicity is the best part. I read the manual and was able to use immediately.
