It certainly is a vivid presentation of what really happens in the streets and on the corner. The series also has an educational feature to it, in learning how the people cope with life in these situations. The narrator Charles S. Dutton has a good way of starting off each characters dilema and interviews each individual prior to you seeing the way the corner affects their life. The best scene is when Protagonist Deandre's cousins and fellow drug dealing associates defend their corner on the basis that the night before a washington drug dealer threatens their corner, I was moved to the fact that they chose to play C.R.E.A.M. by the wu-tang clan to aid in the scene. It was the most memorable scene i can remember.
I would recommend reading the book by David Simon and Edward Burns first, "The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood". However, "The Corner" miniseries is a very well done, and unique blend of journalism and drama. It is produced by David Simon, the same producer of "The Wire" and "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets". This is not for the squeemish, or anybody who wants to just see action. It is an attempt to humanize two largely marginalized groups (drug addicts and young drug dealers) in its following of a family deeply entrenched in the West Baltimore drug culture. It does not romanticize the gangster lifestyle, nor does it make excuses for drug addicts. Simon demonstrates the sadness of this lifestyle, in an attempt to raise consciousness by transforming these lives into art. This is a very compelling miniseries.Read full review
One of the best dramatic miniseries to come out of the early 2000's. It is also a precursor to "The Wire" as it was written by the same team

I saw the series on HBO when it first came out. The series is from Charles S. Dutton's watching life as it was on his corners but he filmed in B-more around the lives of Gary, Fran, and their son DeAndre' as they become more of drug addicts and less of a family. I remember when the series was on I couldn't wait till the next one, now owning the DVD set I can't change them out fast enough. This seem so real you become so entangled in their lives that you want to take them to rehab for help. This will also make you not be so quick to judge "crackheads" because they all have a story but also a weakness.
Very honest and gritty story about street life , poverty, drugs and everyday day hustle and bustle.in Baltimore Maryland.pi loved it

Well written, casted and acted, realistic, gritty. Several actors continue to "The Wire" in different characters. Must see as stepping stone to "The Wire".
