I purchased this camera, because I wanted the feel of an SLR camera without the SLR price. This camera, even used, takes phenominal quality pictures, so I will give it 5 stars for that. My title stated, "Beauty is Within" because it has so many quirks on the outside, but for functionality and quality pictures...it does the trick! LENS CAP: Forget about it! This thing will never stay on, no matter what you do! I thought it was just my camera, being that it was used...nope! I started seeing other auctions that said the camera was great, but the lens cap will not stay on. I suggest buying a seperate rubber cap or something if you want to protect the lens. CONTROL BUTTONS: Another forget about it! This switch sticks so bad, that sometimes I have to use TWO hands to switch to a different mode! Could just be my camera, but I think i have seen other auctions claiming the same thing...so it could be something that happens once the camera gets older, I don't know. SHUTTER/TIMING: Slight delay, but nothing to crazy. I love the quality of the pictures, so it just must meen it is doing the job right! SIZE/WEIGHT: GREAT! Easy to hold, easy to store and easy to use! ZOOM: Absolutely incredible! This thing for only being a 4.0mp and 10X zoom...it is astonishing how close you can get to the subject...I feel like a paparazzi! Insert an additional memory card and you could snap away at paris Hilton for hours! Speaking of hours... BATTERY CHARGE: it goes for hours and hours...actually days, if you keep it turned off :) UPGRADES & ADDONS: Endless! This little camera has so many different lens addons that can be purchased seperately, that it truly does feel like a professional SLR camera. Try and do that with some of these smaller digital cameras they have now...forget about it! So, 2 out of 7 aint bad! The camera i purchased has something wrong on the screen, and is a bit used...so I am attempting to purchase another one, but I'm looking for the same camera!Read full review

BELOW IS A REVIEW of the DX6490 Kodak Camera: Though I think camera is a bit over priced for what you actually are getting, it does as it promises overall. A similar camera without the KODAK name is a great deal less expensive but, it does not carry the prestige as a "name brand" does in today's world. I personally found the video mode a bit useless as most families already have a camcorder...(the wife part of the family is usually in charge of), LOL. But, it is there in case you should need it, which I guess is a good thing The features of the camera that caught my eye was the pict-brige/ docking station of the camera. If you already have a Kodak pic printer or a Kodak printer set up for picture printing, you are able to use this with your exsisting equipment. Therefore, eliminating the need of further investment to print lab quality photos. I have owned and do own quite a few cameras. This one was a gift from a former company, something I would not have bought for myself. However, upon taking the camera on a couple of trips and running it through its paces, I found it to be reliable product. I would recommend for beginers through intermediate users. It would be a great step up from the small point and shoot models sold by the big box stores or, the digital/video micro cams that are so popilar today . Should you purchase one of the DX6490 Kodaks, I would recommend that you read your owners manual through a couple of times and make sure you are fimilar with all the features and options that the camera offers. Then simply take it out and play with it until you can master it. It should fulfill most needs of the novice camera operator! Overall, I would rate the camera 4 stars out of 5 and would recommend.Read full review
For the price it is an excellent digital camera. Four meg might not seem like much but the optics are outstanding and more than make up for the low meg count. The camera is at its best in auto mode. Not a pro quality camera by any stretch but much better than the point and shoots that cost much more and are so common. The features are easy to understand and the more you use it the more you'll grasp it's abilities.
Bought my DX6490 off ebay . was looking for something to do nice pics and VIDIO's. BUT. for some reason . when I record VIDIO's I can see and hear them on the camera. I'm using a 1 and also 2 gb sd card. But when I put the sd card in the computer I can only hear the recording and not the Vidio.. Bought a filter adaptor and some filter to enhance the shots of the camera . But still want to use the VIDIO part of this camera. CAN SOMEONE HELP ME?
Having got one of these when they first came out ( at about $300) I was very impressed with the features and photo quality it offered, since that time much water has passed under the bridge with newer cameras with more features and greater pixel rating etc. I currently run Kodak and Sony cameras with far greater pixel ratings and features, but often find myself going back and still using my DX6490 quite often for my run around beater camera per say. Recently my old standby (DX6490) got knocked to the ground from a height of 6 feet and knocked the main lens out of it, and after finding the lens parts the next day after they had been driven over and gouged up, I still re-assembled the camera and it still works fine except for some detectable blurs in the image where the main lens was damaged, so I bought another used DX6490 on ebay for lens parts ( for $20.50), it turned out all it needed was a good battery so I just borrowed the one from my original DX6490 and continue to use this camera heavily. I like the fact DX6490 seems very conservative on battery consumption and while dated by todays standards and lacks some features of todays cameras, I still use it as a mainstay camera for much of my general shooting. Over all Pros and Cons,(Pros) Great battery run time, nice general features both auto and manual, nice picture quality, (Cons) dated on features and setting ability limited to 4MPRead full review
I have purchased two of these in my lifetime. I used to have the Fujifilm that I think this was manufactured by Kodak to compete with, but when the lense broke and I couldn't afford a replacement, I bought this used for $60.00. It lasted two years before the jog dial, or as it is also called, the scroll wheel froze. I purchased a second one on Ebay for $22.00 to replace it, and it came with the same problem. This told me that once these cameras start to wear out after about 3 years of use. However, the fix was easy by just squirting some powdered graphite lubricant around the edges of the wheel. Now, I have two of these cameras still in good working order, one that I can now give away to a friend whose never had a digital camera before, and my original. I'd say having two of these cameras for under $100 is an excellent value. Most people don't need higher than a 4 MP camera, especially with most pictures being posted online these days, and the 10X is the best feature of all! I can take pictures of birds in trees and focus on them from 30 feet away and still get a decent picture, or take a picture of a squirrel eating from my deck and it appears that I was standing two feet away. The videos are not that high quality, but if your goal is to establish good quality photos on photo sharing sites like Google Photos, Facebook, or Flickr, this camera is perfect.Read full review
I have had this camera for about 20 years , It is a great camera the only thing that went wrong with my old one was the flash flip spring. The rest of the camera is still in good shape and takes great pictures.

We like our camera very much! It is an older model. However, easy to use! Easy taking pictures, putting onto computer, developing the shots, etc. The only thing we do not like about the model is that it has a lense cap that will not stay on! Also, it gets in the way when you are taking pictures. Other than that it is easy for Older picture takers to use. We decided to purchase this camera because we needed a replacement one, and the price was great. Thanks!
I have owned a DX6440 and was very impressed with the camera. The camera took six years of abuse. I recently upgraded with the DX6490, This is a newer version of the DX6440 and all my accessors work with this model.(printer dock , camera dock, camera bag) The battery's are now available in Li=Ion, witch makes this a perfect camera, Large and bulky perhaps by comparing the recent click and shoots. The features on this camera are only availably now on cameras costing almost a thousand dollars. They are: view finder large LCD screen manual mode sport mode portrait mode night mode video mode easy share option a very high grade lens (kreuznach variogon) a full size sd card. Vintage technology still on top of the game.
I purchased this exact camera new over 10 years ago. It finally failed but only after over 4000 pics were taken. I bought another one just like it and it's just as good as the first. I love the small file size and it's ability to provide sharp 11 x 14 in. prints. If you can find one in good condition, buy it! A very versatile camera!
