      Classic "western" action film with lots of good humor.

      If you enjoyed either version of The Magnificent Seven you will love the original film made in Japan. This is a great story told well on the screen with the magnificent actor Toshiro Mufuni.

      One of the Finest of all Japanese Movies

      This movie is the gold standard of all combat movies, no matter from what country the film has been made. It is interesting to compare it to the Magnificent Seven, the American adaptation of the Seven Samurai, which was also excellent in its own right. One can see how humility in the face of adversity is valued by both cultures, although illustrated differently. This character trait is especially poignant in the Seven Samurai when considering it was released just nine years after the dropping of two atomic bombs on Japan. The universal value of sacrifice toward what is right, superior to what is merely gainful, is equally illustrated. Treat yourself to both movies for a cultural experience.

      I own the 2-disc VHS, but it's becoming inconvenient to rely on my tape player, so I was very excited to see this DVD version! First saw this on network TV back in the early 70s, became fascinated that when told it was the impetus to making The Magnificent Seven.
