Creator Steve Franks' comedic entry into the crime-solving genre follows the investigative efforts of fake psychic Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his childhood pal and sidekick Burton "Gus" Guster (Dulé Hill).\ Though Shawn has top-notch observational skills and the keen instincts necessary to become a detective, he also has a free-spirited, goofy side that prevents him from pursuing a serious career in police work, much to the chagrin of his father Henry (Corbin Bernsen). A former detective, Henry honed his son's talents at a young age and is constantly frustrated by Shawn's carefree view of adult life. Henry's former colleague Interim Chief Karen Vick (Kirsten Nelson), however, sees Shawn as an asset for solving tough cases, even though she's skeptical of his alleged psychic ability, a lie Shawn manufactured after he gave the police a tip that was so accurate he became a suspect.Product Identifiers

Kinda blurry and case is cheap, but still worth it. (Positives and Negatives)
My review is in line with most other buyers' reviews; mostly satisfied, but not without complaints. NEGATIVES: Product has very cheap casing (the plastic slots are literally held in place by tape) and the resolution is lower than that of the psych DVDs you get when you buy each season individually. Item came sealed in plastic wrap, but there were fingerprint smudges on many of the disks. POSITIVES: Product shipped fast and without any damage. I have had no problems with episodes skipping or not playing, and as another reviewer said "blurry Psych is better than no Psych," so I can't really complain. I've only watched one episode that has been irritatingly fuzzy so far...the rest have been of pretty decent quality. It's all 8 seasons of the best show ever for a nice low price, so overall it's a worthwhile purchase. I don't regret it. The quality was better on Netflix, but it's not there anymore so this is a good alternative for watching the show.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great Show - Mediocre Box Set
I am only reviewing the Box Set itself. This is easily one of my Top 5 shows of all time! That being said, this Box Set would be an incredible deal at any price if the video quality weren't so poor and if the packaging were just a bit better. The packaging is decent as far as the printed cardboard parts and the green plastic outer cover is concerned. The disc trays are just 2-disc plastic trays (the discs overlap on the tray) that have clear packaging tape holding them together like a book spine. Not horrible, but I believe this has caused minor scuff marks on the discs. Packaging aside, the video quality is almost pathetic for the various episodes. The first disc I pulled out and tested was from Season 3 (Disc 1, I think). When this show was in Netflix, the quality was great. I believe they actually dropped the video quality for this box set. There is an massive amount of pixelization in the video and digital artifacts around the on-screen graphics which were definitely not there on the Netflix versions. I played these disc on several computers with various DVD or Blu-Ray readers/burners and in a Samsung Blu-Ray player connected to a 40" 720p TV and on every system the quality was not great. In my opinion, the only thing holding this set back from being 5 stars is the video quality. Rather unfortunate way to treat such a great show's legacy.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Psych-ooooooo!
I absolutely love this series and have been wanting to own it ever since it was taken off of Netflix. When I tried to describe this show to my brother, I could only say that it was like watching the characters from Scrubs perform The Mentalist. The main characters are quirky and fun, with personalities that cause you to laugh and fall in love. Each actor/actress cast is perfectly suited for the part, and play their roles amazingly. There are also a large number of big star cameos (seriously LOVE the episodes with Cary Elwes), satirical pop culture references to famous shows and movies throughout, and even a hidden pineapple in every episode. As the seasons progress, so does the character development. The childish yet charming Shawn eventually grows up (a little), but can still make you laugh just as much as in the beginning seasons. The fresh faced and naive Detective Juliet O’Hara shows that you can be a strong and competent badass without losing femininity. And even the stiff and grumpy Detective Lasseter begins to warm up his icy exterior and allows friendships with this crazy group of misfits. Now to review the product itself. Most packages of the complete series can cost over $100 on Amazon. But this dvd set was such a deal. I was afraid it might be a knock off, and would be a pirated copy with low image quality discs. But I have watched EVERY episode on every disc now, with special features as well. Everything was great. There were no problems with playback or quality. There weren’t any strange captions or logos running across the bottom. It was exactly what I was hoping for. Some people have been complaining about the quality of the image. But you have to remember that this show was recorded for TV before everything was high definition. So you can’t be picky. My final thoughts are that if you are still on the fence, just do it. Because it is so hard to find quality family entertainment like this show on TV these days. You won’t be sorry.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

A Fantastic Show without Equal
There has been nothing like "Psych", before or since, that combines genuine laughs with perfect cast chemistry. If you're into pop culture the way the show's creator and cast are, you'll get even more laughs and in-jokes. Seventy-five percent of the pop culture references go over my head, and I still loved this show enough to buy the complete series. I've watched these episodes over and over, and I continue to be entertained every time. I'm a sucker for "detective" shows, but I don't love the gore that is spattered over so many such shows these days. "Psych" keeps it light and very little violence features in the show itself, but the mysteries are interesting and engaging anyway. That means this is a great family show. In fact, it is one of the few shows I watch that my retirement-age mother enjoys right along with me. And unlike the extras you'll find with other series' DVDs, the audio commentaries are family friendly too--and so far I've only faintly heard one nasty word on the bloopers. (Disclaimer: I've watched only one complete season so far.) As for the Box Set itself, it's a fantastic bargain. However, the packaging isn't as much of a keeper as the discs themselves, unfortunately. I am seriously considering the purchase of a CD/DVD wallet to store the discs, since the DVDs are basically stored in several stacked trays of thin plastic that have nothing holding them together except tape (placed where a book binding would be). I would keep the outer packaging, of course--the laminated cardboard part with the pineapple on the cover and all the episode listings and whatnot. Anyway, buy this set! Great show
My husband and I LOVE Psych. We’ve watched it over and over again when we housesit for our friends, and loved when it was on Netflix but after having a baby we have been pretty tied down and Netflix cycled it out. I surprised my husband for Christmas and bought this set. My only complaint is that the discs overlap one-another and we have to take out disc 2 of each season to get to the 1st one but that’s just a slight inconvenience. Great price and packaging for the complete series
This is a great price to have the entire 8 seasons all in one place. The packaging is unique and distinctive. The box is taller than a normal DVD holder, so you may need to find a slightly different place to store it than your other DVDs. It fits on my shelf just fine. The DVDs inside are stacked, 2 per plastic tray, with all the trays stacked together and held together with tape. Mine is still opening like a book as I look for specific seasons, but I don't think the tape is meant to be a permanent binding solution. Eventually it appears that it will be a massive stack of plastic trays stored in the plastic "pineapple box." I suggest you be very gentle with the plastic pineapple box. Not as durable as traditional DVD cases, but it takes up way less space and is cool looking.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great show; not the best picture quality

Psych = amazing
This show is fantastic. I bought it on DVD because it went off of Netflix, which caused me to have withdrawal tremors and grow a man-bun. After recovering from this, I found out the full series was available (albeit on DVD) and I decided I had to have it. The characters are great, the show is mostly light-hearted, which I enjoy since my job is fairly high-adrenaline. CanNOT overemphasize how much I recommend this show, as it not only has so many great seasons and specials, but unlike most shows these days actually has a great ending as well! The Shawn, Gus, and pineapple show!!!
We stumbled across this series when they were originally airing it on USA. We fell in love with these characters. It's like a funny American Sherlock. We also love BBC's Sherlock. The main character has the same deduction skills. However, because no one could be that clever, he must pass him self off as a Psychic Detective. Although, this is much more light hearted, they still balance challenging cases with great comedic timing. It doesn't take long to fall in love these characters. Not to mention, we can watch this with out kids. They love it as well. It manages to be addictive, while still being family friendly. Perfect Series for Fam w/ Teens!
Can't go wrong with a mystery series that is funny, creative, nutty with VERY interesting characters and story lines. My teen ordered this for MY birthday. Now we're rewatching the entire series for the 3rd time (after it was taken off of Netflix)! The main character Shawn Spencer and his stoic yet dependable sidekick and BFF, Gus, are a hilarious duo! The rest of the cast is perfect in each of their roles. It's fairly clean show with appropriate humor, nothing explicit and no gore. Oh...and look for a pineapple in every episode!
