Still not the perfect transfer to DVD
Despite being in the original French language (with English subtitles) and having the bonus interview with writer Catherine Breillat, fans of this movie are likely to be disappointed with the quality of the transfer. Colors are washed out, the image is shaky and the soundtrack muted. It's all a mess, but not a total loss compared to the other DVD versions that are out there. It may be a correct assumption that due to the controversial nature of the film there will never be a Criterion Collection edition, or even a major studio restoration. And this is a shame. The film, despite the controversy, can be beautiful eye candy for those who enjoy sumptuous-looking European art cinema that exalts style over substance.
