These diodes work OK at 60Hz, but not for a 90KHz voltage multiplier - failing (shorted) after a few seconds. Max reverse voltage is 25KV in this application. Average forward current is 0.2A, much less than the rated 1A. I was initially using hand-built stacks of BYG21M diodes. Those last much longer, but one did fail due to Trr mismatch. I was hoping that a commercial diode stack would be more reliable, use avalanche-rated die and ones from the same wafer for matched Trr. These diodes fail similarly to my early hand-built ones that used non-avalanche-energy-rated diodes: The diodes get leaky and breakdown voltage drops due to brief avalanche current. When enough diodes fail, the failure cascades. (The avalanche current is in the fastest diodes of the stack, conducting the remaining reverse-recovery charge of the slower diodes.) BTW, I tried the 2CLG 30KV 2A diodes for the multiplier before the 40KV 1A version. Both failed in the same way, both after a few seconds. My stacks of 32 BYG21M diodes (not matched) work much better. I'm switching to BYG23M for faster recovery time now.Read full review
