The two places which touch the instruments top plate are angled up, so the two "feet" don't touch the top plate completely, mostly just at one edge. Maybe it fits snugly a 16.5" viola. but it could also be a sloppy design or execution. This is advertised as "high quality" item, but the fault described above tells otherwise. For the price it's adequate, but one needs to do some woodworking to make it fit snugly.
