I'm new to cast iron so my comments may not be relevant. I've made baked beans and ham in the oven with it, but I'm thinking a ceramic bean pot would have been better. It's sturdy and should last forever. Cast iron can break but not easily as ceramic, several of which I've gone through in the past. I'm happy with it.

Heavy - well seasoned - this cast iron Dutch Oven is crafted to be a " heirloom" treasured by future generations .

The cast iron is thick, the finish smooth, and the pre-season better than most I've bought. I cook only in cast iron simply because the food turns out better. I hear the micro-amounts of iron that leaches into the food is perfect but I cannot vouch for that. I like it because it's well made and I'm happy with my purchase.

When we received the Dutch Oven, we immediately could tell that it had been seasoned at the factory. Following the inclosed instructions, we applied our own cooking oil and set it on the cooktop over a low heat as additional seasoning. We have since used the Dutch Oven a couple of times with success. First to brown and slow cook some spare ribs in a spicy Latin sauce. Yumm, good and “no sticking” occurred even after two hours cooking time. The second time was more of a tradional Navy bean soup from scratch. They also turned out great without sticking. Again following the instructions included with the pot, we lightly washed and reoiled the pot and put it over a low heat to insure complete drying of the pot after each use. We highly recommend this product !!!
