since replacing my old lens this one has helped me step up a notch in my images and also in confidence photographically
Fantastic lens, perfect for wildlife shots, I would definitely recommend this lens for anyone interested in photographing the small and beautiful things that mother nature detailed so minutely.
Superb lens with excellent Macro performance. Doubles up as a really good portrait lens too. Construction is very good – typical prime lens build from Sigma i.e. robust with smooth operation. Best used with solid tripod and manual focusing. Used with Canon 7D & 5Dmk2 with stunning HD filming and photo resolution, and because of the sensor size, 7D images are even closer, and without side affects. Popular lens that holds its value well due to demand. Overall; highly recommended.
I was inspired to purchase this lens after seeing the results of Paul Iddons' work on Canon Fodder Forums (Google it). The feel of this lens is that it is well made and robust. If there is one thing that I don't like much, it is the dull matt finish on the Sigma lenses. I use it on my Canon 450D and can only say that I am immensely pleased with the results. The quality far outweighs any of the normal kit lens offerings from Canon. If you want good results from your DSLR at a reasonable price - This is the lens to get. Perfect also for macro images.
This is my first macro lens and I wasn't sure what to expect. Having tested it out for a week, I can safely say that this is an excellent lens. It's delivers sharp results at f2.8 and the DoF control at f2.8 is pretty amazing. The zoom range is a little long for my liking. It's a 105mm lens and thus allows you to get closer to your macro subjects without you having to go physically closer. I can see this being useful for photographing butterflies (they're rather timid and will fly off if you get too close), and whatever else you buy a macro for. The focus is rather slow which is not surprising given that this is a macro lens. Having said that, while the focus speed is slow it is precise. It's always nailed the focus in my tests and the resulting photos are sharp. All in all, it's a good buy. I'd highly recommend it.Read full review
