This lens shoots beautifully on my old Nikon D40X. The lens is as described in excellent condition; built like a tank. The focus is smooth. This is my first used lens purchase. So, the price was excellent for a newbie like me to take the plunge into experimenting and learning. Jeff gave exceptional customer service, as he gave time and attention in sharing his knowledge. I'm very happy with this lens. The blur and bokeh are divine.

Push-pull focus with a beautiful macro mode on the tail end makes this fun and convenient to use. It's heavy and solid as a rock. This is a fantastic photojournalist lens because of the 35-135mm zone, so I can leave this lens on as my primary lens when outside and--as a cherry on the top--I can pull focus into the macro to get a close-up picture of near-distance subjects. All I know is this is a true hidden gem in the classic Nikkor manual focus lens world. Buy it. They're so cheap, so well built, and transfer light quality so well, what do you have to lose with testing it out? There are people out there looking for these lenses because they aren't made any more. They have and will retain value.

I always insist on constant aperature zooms but all mine are 2x or 2.5x only. Was considering buying a Nikon AF-S VR 28-300mm f3.5-5.6G ED to take my new FX on holiday... but don't want to fork out few hundred £s. So thought of 35-135mm as a good balance for landscape and portrait shots. By God's grace, I stumbled upon this [near mint] sample at a bargain price. The condition is as new: perfectly clean optics, zero zoom creep and defect free body. My AF35-70 f2.8 has the marco at the wide end which is virtually useless due to severe distortion. This lens however has the macro at the tele end which works extremely well. This is a bonus and make it a very versatile "all-in-one" travel companion. Lack of AF is an issue at times but I can focus at any precise spot I want. Images are razor sharp when in focus, what a lens!Read full review
