First of all, I want to tell you, this is an excellent tele photo len! Although it has f/4 not f/2.8, However Leica still always made their good working. I used this len with my Nikon D700 in Manual Focus len with Nikon F mount's adaptor plate. The quality of photo show how good of its take and better than Nikon in same condition. In low light sistuation, this len will perform better than other tele photo len that I used to use before. With its weight about 1 KG. And the classic design of this len will make you enjoy to shoot and walk around to take a photo without nervous or anything. An internal hood is a good designing of this len and Leica always make this. You will get the photo in best quality especially in portrait action. Length 80-200mm is the best and comfort to take a good job of photo and I always get the good shots with it. If price is not your problem, this Leica Vario-Elmar-R 80-200mm f/4 will easily be the one you love in your bag. Really recommended!!!Read full review
This lens is big! Its a constant aperture design -- F4 at all focal lengths. Once you get over the size and weight, the quality of the build will impress you. Its very solid and beautifully made. Only wish it was F2.8 instead of F4.
This is my first Leica Lens. It takes time to learn. This lens is great in rendering colors and low light area. Distortion is apparent in certain situation. Not a lens for architecture except detail shots. The build quality is well exceeding any J-make lens I experienced.
very nice color good sharp from 80-200 good for portrait Leica 50 F2 better sharp than 80-200, but 80-200 is one of best color I own 100 Apo 2.8 and many others.
