The young generation of the Swann family moves into young adulthood in 1880s Great Britain, encountering abuses in industry and society as their lives mature. Quite a detailed sketch of these issues, as experienced through the eyes of each individual. My reservation is that the book seemed to me a bit too episodic and compartmentalized, with the story of each family member mostly unconnected to the story of the others, almost as a collection of short stories on a theme. Nevertheless, an enjoyable read.

Just started reading it but it is compelling. The book is not in the best of shape.
