You can write simple and complex programs on this calculator in spite of the relatively small memory. The additional magnetic card reader/writer allows saving programs and data to a magnetic strip card; however, often you will find as I did with this purchase, that the card reader needs repairing to replace the melted rubber wheel used to pull the card through. The addition of the printer allows you to print a record of your programs and data or calculations. Could be useful for any who needs to keep records such as a CPA to Tax accountant. Useful and you can learn a lot from this. I recommend obtaining the manuals - often for sale on eBay.

This is a vintage calculator from Hewlett Packard, sold new in the 80's. It has additional, easier programming/computing ability vs the earlier HP 35,45,55's, but with about the same size (actually slightly smaller). It can be customized with HP modules to suit certain disciplines in the four available complartments. The LCD vs LED display gives much longer battery life. I rcall my HP 35 I used for the 8 hr EIT (engineer in training) exam in 1973 was running on fumes at the end, with a 5 hr capacity. The unique batt's I ordered from HP earlier, of course arrived the next day. The HP 41 C series weaknesses includes the battery compartment battery contact assembly. This is very vulnerable to battery acid leakage, but can be replaced by a very steady electronics-savy hand. Always look here before you buy. Replace batt's periodically (a standard type "N") and/or remove. My HP41 is pristine.Read full review
The HP41CV is arguably one of the best scientific calculators of all time. The easy RPN interface and programming is fully compatible with the later HP 42S, and the 4 expansion slots provide expansions to the base memory and operating system. I recommend every 41CV user consider Extended functions module first, then extended memory modules (2 each). These are different than the standard "Memory Modules". Both the HP 41CV and 41CX have a full complement of regular memory. Other noteworthy modules include the PPC Rom, the CCD Rom, NOVRam/Clonix modules, and the Advantage ROM. For the more exotic buyers, look for a dual or triple module or a Zengrange Voltage converter to make your own EPROMS. See my guide on upgrading the HP41C series for more specific suggestions. The HP41 CV is the cadillac of calculators. Programmable, scientific, lots of storage, and built in functions with readable names like like LOG and SIN. Use readable alphanumeric names for your programs and labels like "Margin" and "Markup". The documentation is first rate. The seller of this particular unit included an original case and box and all the manuals. No better programmable calculator has ever been built. This was the peak of the golden age of quality HP calculators.

Ever since I was in college, I've used this particular model of HP's. It has not let me down once. I can program it backwards and forwards, and the different application modules are fantastic. I use the Electrical Engineering and the Math/Stat ones in particular. Excellent transaction, A+
