I purchased this projector after reading about it in Consumer Reports. It was very highly reccomended by them and after receiving it I know why. My screen is 80 inches and it looks better than anything I have ever seen in any size at BestBuy or Fry's. Even up close at 80" images are very sharp and you'll know what HD is for when you see it on a big screen! This unit is for spoiled brats like me. The lamps aren't bad, but you can find them on ebay for $200. They last 3000 hours. A really great feature is that you can adjust everything via the remote control. So I change the size often depending on where I am sitting. The people at Sony really came up with a nice quality full 1080P HD projector at a great price.
I currently have a theater room set up with the Sony VPL-VW60 projector with Elite Screens fixed frame R92WH1 screen. The picture quality with that set up is outstanding. I checked this projector out in the theater room and the picture quality was just as I expected, outstanding. I bought this Sony VPL-VW50 projector for my family room with and Elite Screens fixed frame Sable R120WH2 and I'm currently working on finalizing the set up. I look forward to seeing how this projector performs on the 120" screen but if that performance is anything like it performed on my 92" it's going to be amazing. All that being said you can NEVER go wrong with a Sony TV or Projector. In closing I have 4 Sony 4K TV's and truthfully I am unable to see a difference between the TV's and the projecters. They are that good even though these are older model Sony projectors. I am FULLY SATISFIED and very excited to see the new finished product. I hope this review has helped make someones choice a little easier. Good luck and happy hunting! The photo is of my current theater room.Read full review

Sony makes some of the best cinema quality projectors in the world. Feels like a solid machine and produces an amazing image with a ton of control possibilities. Only drawbacks to the VPL-VW50 is the low lumens. It requires a light controlled environment (aka dark!) as any ambient light can wash it out. That's the only downfall for this wonderful projector. In that dark room, the picture quality is truly amazing, even on my 125" basic white projection screen.

I absolutely love this projector. The screen looks amazing. Blu-ray movies especially look good. I was a little worried at first, because of the short distance from my couch to the screen, but the picture is crystal clear. This projector has several different modes to match the lighting in your home. Before buying the projector, I looked at a 73" 1080p television & it didn't come close to comparing. The lamp for the projector is pretty expensive, but you can find some good deals on eBay.
