Toshiba Pocket PC e330
The Toshiba e330 is quite handy -- as long as one remembers its designed "footprint." It is NOT a laptop computer. It is NOT a cell phone. It is NOT designed to get you on-line, checking your e-mail or text-messages. However, it IS a GREAT organizer! It is a GREAT note-pad! It is a GREAT way to read books! It is a GREAT MP3 player! With a built-in slot for SD-Memory cards, (available from eBay for just a few bucks, shipping and all!) the memory is no problem. In addition, it costs considerably less than a laptop. I have bought several, (one for me; one for my wife, etc) from e-Bay for less than $100! By simply upgrading with a portable keyboard, Serving as a tutor for a local school, I have found I can handle basic Word and Excel documents easily. For years, I used my Nokia ... My wife and I have been foster-parents for two special-needs boys for more than 4 years. During that time, we have had 12 federal and state agencies involved in their lives -- in addition to our own hectic schedules. I owned my own business. I went looking for something a bit more functional as a calendar. In the Toshiba e330, I found quite a bit more than I had hoped. However, there is just one big solution-piece missing from the formula that drops this handy little palm-top from EXACTLY what I need: Internet access! Although the e330 can supposedly use an SD IO Wireless card to log-onto the Internet, or a LAN, even with my 30+ years of computer-experience, I was unable to squeeze this feature from my units. My answer? A Toshiba Pocket PC e740/e750. I have used a 740 some at my school to access the LAN. The 750 is the upgradeable Windows Mobile 2003 unit. However, I'll save those for another review! I bought this older model to see if I like and would use the technology. Not wanting to put out the $$$ for an iPhone if it was just going to sit in a desk, this was a cost-effective solution. I have specific reasons for wanting Excel access in a very portable format. This Pocket PC does that perfectly! The other thing I really like is the notes function that I can write rather than type! This will be very useful to replace the myriad post it notes I seem to have all over the place. My only issue is the font and screen size. My eyes get tired easily since I am at a computer screen all day. The amount of light and the size of the font really makes it hard for me to see the details. Overall, I love it! This is a tool I will make room for and one I will use. After more time working ... I bought this older model to see if I like and would use the technology. It works on the charger!
I recently received the Toshiba E330. I have to admit I was excited to get it! I couldn't wait to start organizing my life! Well to my shagrin .... When the add said it dies quiclky ... it is no joke! It dies literally less then 30 seconds after I take off the charger. LITERALLY! Anyway I have not given up and am now in pursuit of a battery. Hopefully that does the trick!
