Straits lose their shine
Dire Straits sounded tired during this tour and by this time Mark Knopfler had had enough of such massive operations. None of the raw, tight, exciting playlists from their world tours in 1982-83 and 1985-86, both of which featured Terry Williams as drummer, who didn’t return for this tour. Except for ‘Romeo and Juliet’ which is sublime, much of this 1992 concert sees Mark and Dire Straits just going through the motions and even tracks like ‘Private Investigations’ and ‘Brothers In Arms’ are rendered impotent. ‘Telegraph Road’, which they started playing again from 1992, sadly wasn’t included which was a shame as the reworked rendition played was brilliant. There’s no question that the workmanship is first rate. This tour ended in October 1992, drove Dire Straits into the ground and ... Great Concert
Although the concert isn’t shown on widescreen, it is still entertaining after all these years. The pedal steel guitarist makes this concert a stand out for genuine music lovers and musicians alike. Have had the VHS since it’s release in the mid 90s.
