Unit works well in the shortwave/HF band and similar at other freqs, you don't use direct sampling as it has a HF upconverter on board, you'll need to use the blog v4 driver which makes HF tuning seamless, just tune to freq you need. Tested with linux and GQRX. Of course: the antenna you connect is everything, poor antenna feed will only result in disappointment, a long wire outside and up high will greatly improve things. But I'm sure you heard this before... Do make sure you buy a legit unit.

I originally has a clone which was OK, but I lent that to someone. This is definitely crisper. I mostly listen to ATC. I have a good antenna on a 3m pole (a fishing pole actually), a home made flower pot which has always worked well for me. It's definitely crisper and clearer and is spot on for tuning out of the box no offset needed. Arrived yesterday (21st) so much shorter than the estimate. Nice product.

    Better than expected.

I use it as a ASD-B receiver with a raspberry pi and it has very good sensitivity. The integrated EMI filter works fine so don't need the external filter i have. The only concern is that the receiver is getting hot and I have to do something about that because it is placed in a box where the sun sees it all day. For flightradar24 radarbox and related applications you have to install the appropriate drivers from rtl-sdr site. It is better than expected. I recommend it.

  • RTL-SDR dongle. 100% happy with my purchase..

Purchased two RTL-SDR dongles, very good value for money, excellent reviews. Will be buying another two soon as I mainly listen to P25 and TETRA trunking systems.

  • SDR works as advertised.

SDR works as advertised. It is as easy to use as the V3 version but does a better job at HF frequencies. However, the sensitivity is a few dB lower when using the internal upconverter as opposed to using a NooElec standalone upconverter. Still very usable.

  • The best RTL-SDR

I bought this device for a specific receiving task. I wanted to use it with the AirSpy SDR# software and the RTL_433 plugin from GitHub. I had it up and running within a couple of hours and was able to log a dozen or so low-power 433 MHz wireless devices by the next day. All this with a short indoor antenna, The RTL-SDR BLOG V4 is quite sensitive on UHF frequencies. The value proposition lies not just in the quality of this RT:L-SDR implementation, but also in the wealth of free software for decoding a myriad of radio signals by RTL-based devices.
