LORI KORLESKI RICHARDSON, MCCLATCHY NEWSPAPERS Author Donald Kroodsma, a visiting fellow at the Cornell University Lab of Ornithology who has studied song birds for 40 years, has done a fine job introducing novices to the world of bird song, as well as concisely describing each bird and its habitats on a single page. The wonderful color illustrations by Larry McQueen and Jon Janosik help birders distinguish the male and female of each species.

Great resource for identifying song birds!

This book is filled with informative and interesting details about songbirds. The photos are vibrant and beautiful. The inclusion of the bird sounds is unique and much appreciated as an aid to identifying birds. Only issue was that my book arrived with dead batteries for the bird sound feature, but they were straightforward to replace.

  • Compelling Resource

This is a wonderful book. The recorded birdsongs are clear, and provide an accessible way to learn those elusive sounds. The write-ups are beautifully written in flowing English, and inspire us to get to know the birds in our neighborhood.

  • The Best Birdsong reference EVER!

This is much nicer than listening to a CD of birdsongs because you have the picture of the bird right in front of you and hear the songs. That is more helpful to me.
