This worked out perfect for me. It's a second player being used in a living room. Not my main TV. Now I can watch Blu-ray's on another set, besides my main TV with surround. I wouldn't buy this if you want it for your main player, unless you have to go real cheap. No internet connection or BD live feature. And it's not very pretty either. But for a second player, at $99, it worked just fine.
Love: Simplicity and solid construction. Plug N' play. Relatively low price for a high tech electronic device. So far, the picture quality is marginally improved generally (with Blue-Ray and also conventional DVDs). Blue-Ray DVDs cannot be played on conventional players. But so far, I was not knocked out of my seat by a Wow! reaction to Blue-Ray vs conventional DVDs.
Works fine but I wish it had the Pandora Radio Station a long with Netflix. I really like the Netflix but, Pandora would add a lot to the player. Movies look great on my old bed room TV. I have a Samsung 1590 in the living room & it has more options but, the Insignia works great as a second player.
You get what you pay for. $99 blu-ray player can't complain. Upconversion is so-so, blu-ray quality a little disappointing. If you are watching an older movie in the blu-ray format it is just as if you are watching an upconverted dvd, don't bother converting your dvds to blu-ray. However a newer movie shot in HD, the picture is definitly noticeable.
I purchased this because I have an Insignia HDTV and the price was right. Since I bought this online I didn't have the chance to see it up close. I might have changed my mind if I did but I can't say for sure. This bluray player is a little slow to boot up and quite large. Aside from that, it's great and I would probably buy another one but only for this price.
