tipping the velvet
i first saw this as a 2 part mini series on channel 2, and frankly, nearly died. i don't think i am a prude, (but maybe i am!) but this movie is one out of the box, and so is the book. It is set in the late 1800's in london, and the movie is about a young girl who leaves home and discovers her sexuality, being a lesbian, and gets involved with a bizarre woman and her sexual lesbian fantasies. the main character has several female lovers, and it is about her life, which frankly is sad, and how she overcomes all obstacles and makes something of herself. the other main character, Anna Chancellor, was in movies like, "four weddings & a funeral" and "what a girl wants", and seeing her in this role, is amazing. i believe the movie is R rated, and deserves this rating. so if you want ... i first saw this as a 2 part mini series on channel 2, and frankly, nearly died. i don't think i am a prude, (but maybe i am!) but this movie is one out of the box, and so is the book.
