    Great book for young students

    This approach helps the student know where the keys are located by first identifying the two black notes and working off of that group of keys. My 5 year old is just starting book 2 and is learning to play with both hands and quickly building up to all 5 fingers. She likes the stories that go with each lesson and she knows the note names and can find them anywhere on the piano. She plays the song, counting the beat of each measure, calling out the notes and rest marks. This approach gives a good solid understanding of music before introducing the staff and written notes.

    It is good for 5 to 8 year olds.

    It is a great music lesson for ages 5 to 9 years old. I just wish they had recognizable songs- like they have the same melody for Mary Had a Little Lamb- but in the book they call it "Dog and Cat Go To School- just give the kids what they want- Not some odd title kids know nothing about...
