About this product

Product Information

In 1997, amidst much media fanfare about the showdown between artificial and human intelligence, chess grandmaster Gary Kasparov lost a set of matches against IBM's "thinking" computer Deep Blue. The documentary film GAME OVER: KASPAROV AND THE MACHINE revisits that series of chess games from Kasparov's perspective, and explores his idea that there may have been an underhanded scheme at work. Taking the chess master's accusations as a starting point, the film investigates the possibility that IBM might have cheated for financial gain, while also positioning the invention of Deep Blue in the history of game playing machines. Part conspiracy theory and part documentation of a media event, GAME OVER considers the fear and wonderment regarding artificial intelligences.

  • Provides Insight to the Controversy, not much else...

Pro's - Gives plenty of both Kasparov and IBM discussion of the event and details the controversy over the match. This will be found interesting to those who are unaware of the controversy, and want more details about the historical event. Con's - A lot of the film shows people in rooms discussing what they remember about the politics of the event, but the details of the games are limited. Only in checking the special features do you get to see the games played, with analysis provided by Chessmaster 10th edition. Kasparov doesn't really discuss his analysis of the games at all, which is what I would imagine hardcore chess fans are looking for (I know I was). The 1 hour, 25 minute documentary could have been told in 45 minutes if you edit out the numerous scenes where they show people ...

  • Great documentary about man vs. machine!

Great documentary regarding the Kasparov vs. Deep Blue man vs. machine match. It's the best because it features the real Kasparov. Professionally done, it is excellent for a general audience as well as those with an interest in Chess.

  • Game Over-Kasparove and the Machine simply a must see for chessplayers!

riviting, if you follw the world champions. You will enjoy this recount of Kasparovs match. I had a copy when it first came out. I know I will enjoy watching it again down the road. A movie worth keeping

  • Gary Kasparov vs. IBM's Deep Blue

Any true chess enthusiast would enjoy the candid nature of this DVD. Gary may have lost the 1997 contest, but what really happened in this man versus machine contest? Watch the DVD and find out.
